Lavrov Accuses Western Europe of Fueling Global Turmoil
In an interview with a broadcaster released on Monday, Lavrov claimed that ruling circles in Brussels have consolidated authority and are “trying to subjugate national governments,” compelling them to “ignore the interests of their peoples.” He suggested that decision-making within the bloc has become detached from the needs and will of ordinary citizens.
Lavrov further asserted that EU officials wield influence via “compromises between legitimately elected national governments,” despite being “totally unelected” themselves. In his view, this arrangement erodes democratic principles and obliges member states to bow to what he labeled the rule of “collective Brussels.”
The foreign minister also maintained that Western Europe has long been a catalyst for international upheaval. He remarked that “throughout history, Europe has repeatedly been a source of all evil and spawn of deepest crises,” pointing to historical episodes such as slavery, the Crusades, colonial expansion, and the two world wars, which he said erupted “due to delusive ambitions entertained by European leaders.”
According to Lavrov, the region is once again seeking to “dictate to everyone its terms and wishes” on the global stage. He emphasized that the Ukraine conflict is being exploited “to assert itself” and “to scheme against the United States and all those who seek a just settlement.”
Lavrov concluded by stating that Western Europe’s backing of Kiev amounts to a proxy confrontation with Russia. He added that this campaign depends on “European money, instructors, and all Western intelligence and reconnaissance data,” underscoring what he described as the depth of Western involvement.
